United Nations African Union Mission in Darfur (UNAMID) has described Nigeria’s Armoured Personnel Carriers (APCs) to be deployed to the mission as substandard, saying they were not made for the desert and so cannot protect the troops.
 The United Nations military team , led by Lt. Col Frank Leonhardt , which was in Nigeria from August 31st to September 2,2009 for a pre-deployment visit to assist, promote, and inspect the APCs to be deployed to the mission, said it was disappointed with the equipment , describing them as “zero standard” which falls below UN’s expectations . Tompolo won’t surrender arms, says Ijaw youth group

WARRI—IJAW youth leaders in the Niger-Delta, under the auspices of the Ijaw Youths Leadership Forum (IYLF) , weekend, said militant leader, Government Ekpemupolo, alias Tompolo, was fighting the cause of Ijaw people and ruled out the possibility of his surrendering  arms when the federal government has not commenced feasible development of the coastal communities. Microsoft has claimed that the ruling that prevents it from selling Word is not justice as it has won the right to a fast track appeal.

Cross River’s many losses

IN 1920 Calabar was made the administrative capital city of Nigeria by the then colonial masters. The euphoria that greeted this gesture by the people of the area was short-lived as the powers-that-be hijacked the capital to Lagos, their excuse was that Calabar was close to Cameroon and it was unconventional for the capital city of a country to be close to a neighbouring country. On further reflection, one is forced to ask which is closer, Calabar to Cameroon or Lagos to Benin Republic? Read the rest of this entry »
